“Share yourself, impact a woman’s life and be forever changed”
The Willow Tree Roots volunteer program will allow visitors to engage in a life-changing experience by volunteering at an in-country Women’s Socioeconomic Empowerment Project site. Visitors will be able to work directly with the women teaching reading, writing and math. Volunteers can also work with the women to help develop product and marketing ideas, business and financial management, and whole-body wellness and empowerment.
Our current volunteer project is located in Kisumu, Kenya. Kisumu is a beautiful port city near East Africa’s famous Lake Victoria. The Kisumu Impala Sanctuary shelters herds of impalas and zebras. Its animal orphanage is home to wildlife like cheetahs and baboons. The city’s Kisumu Museum displays artifacts related to the people of the Nyanza Province. Southwest, Ruma National Park has tall cliffs, roan antelope and bird life.
We accept volunteers year-round and you can customize your schedule. Volunteer stays can last anywhere from one week to several months. We recommend that you stay for at least two weeks in order to fully experience our program.
Upon arrival at the Kisumu airport, volunteers will be picked-up by Willow Tree Roots in-country support and transported to their living accommodations. Volunteers will be provided accommodations that are safe, clean and modest. You can chose to stay in a either hotel/hostel or small furnished apartment at no additional charge. At a hotel stay, volunteers will be provided with breakfast and can opt to have rooms daily. At an apartment stay, volunteers will have greater privacy and the ability to cook their own meals. Transportation to and from the project site will be included.
Volunteers can opt for excursions and tourist activities outside of the project at their own expense. Willow Tree Roots in-country support can assist in providing information about leisure activities in and around the Kisumu area.
Volunteer fees cover pre-departure support and orientation, lodging in Kenya, transportation from and back to the Kisumu airport, transportation to and from the project site, in-country support, and project related expenses. Fees do not cover airfare, excursions and tourist activities, travel or medical insurance, visa and passport fees, immunizations and other medical fees.
